Sunny Handa, Partner at Blakes and McGill Law Communications Professor

Sunny Handa is a Partner and Co-Practice Group Leader Blakes Technology Group. Sunny deals with information technology, intellectual property, communications and electronic commerce matters and a range of corporate/commercial matters relating to technology and communications businesses; he has a substantial practice in mergers and acquisitions of technology companies. Sunny has been consistently named by various ranking agencies as one of Canada's leading Computer and IT, Technology Transactions, Telecommunications and Intellectual Property lawyers. Sunny is a professor of law at McGill University, where he has been teaching since 1994-95. He currently teaches courses on communications law. He speaks frequently at conferences nationally and internationally, is frequently quoted by the media on information technology, intellectual property and communications issues, and acts as an expert witness on technology matters.

Frédérique Lissoir, Partner at Propulsio Conseillers d'affaires 360°

Frédérique Lissoir co-founded her boutique law firm, Propulsio 360° Business Consultants LLP over a year ago and specializing in corporate and commercial needs for entrepreneurs and startups. The one-stop-shop approach of the firm combines law and business consulting under the same roof.

Larry Markowitz, Entrepreneur & Lawyer

Larry Markowitz is a lawyer and entrepreneur who teams up with owner-operators to help grow their businesses. He serves as a trusted advisor and an active investor through his company, Redpath Holdings. Larry is currently developing business opportunities in real estate, medical product distribution and the financing of clean energy, among other projects. Larry is the president of the Lord Reading Law Society; is a past winner of the Promies Award for “Young Professional of the Year”; and is a past winner of the Lexpert Zenith Award for “Corporate and Law Firm Social Responsibility” for pro bono legal work with Kulam, a charity focusing on Africa. Larry has taught a course on Business Law at McGill University; has lectured at the law faculty of the University of Ottawa; and is regularly called upon to speak at legal conferences around the world.

Jamie Benizri, Founder of Legal Logik

Me Jamie Benizri is a senior attorney at Legal Logik. Since finishing his BCL, LLB and LLM at the University of Sherbrooke, he's made it his mission to help businesses and individuals get access to real-time affordable legal help adapted to today's reality. To realize that mission, he launched Legal Logik in 2011, which has grown into a full service innovative law firm with offices in Montreal, Saguenay and Quebec. Sarah Aladas, Co-Founder of Key2Access (BCL/LLB Candidate)

Sarah is a third year law student at McGill and co-founder of a company called Key2Access. Key2Access is revolutionizing traffic infrastructure by making it accessible to the mobility and visually impaired.

Jared Lee, Ex-rocket scientist (BCL/LB Candidate)

Jared is an Ex-Rocket Scientist from the US who dropped everything and immigrated to Canada after meeting the love of his life in grad school. In Vancouver he helped to build PeaceGeeks, an NGO that leverages technology to empower grassroots organizations in developing and conflict-affected areas to better achieve their missions to promote peace and human rights. After moving to Montreal three years ago he has been a Director for the Ville-Marie riding association of the Liberal Party of Canada as well as a lead technology volunteer for the successful campaign in that riding during the 2015 election. He is now enrolled as a dual MBA/Law student at McGill to synthesize and improve the skills acquired through his various adventures.

Sam Michaels, Founder of Canada Legal Help (Articling Student)

Sam Michaels is an entrepreneurial-minded articling student currently working for Legal Logik in Saint Laurent. Sam is a graduate from Osgoode Hall Law School, and the founder of Canada Legal Help, a website designed to connect individuals across Canada to legal resources and services. Always one for "the road less traveled", Sam is committed to developing legal services which are both accessible and innovative.

Eytan Bensoussan, Founder of Ferst Digital (Digital Banking)

Eytan is the Co-founder and CEO of Ferst Digital, a digital banking startup whose mission is to eliminate the pain SMBs feel when they bank and manage their finances. To achieve this, his team is building a fully-mobile open banking platform and service designed around their needs. He was most recently an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company where he had a incredible time working on customer-facing digital transformations in the financial services space. Prior to McKinsey, he worked in corporate law and television production and completed his law/MBA degrees at McGill University. He was called to the New York Bar in 2010.

Alexandre Shee, Analyst at Real Ventures

"Alex Shee, a McGill Law Grad, is now an Analyst at Real Ventures, a Venture Capital fund that serves entrepreneurs and nurture the communities in which they thrive. He is passionate about helping entrepreneurs build their businesses and helping drive the start-up ecosystem. In his role, he meets and screens thousands of startups each year. He is involved in the full investment process from the initial meeting, investment decision, due diligence and closing."

Davide Pisanu, Founding Partner of Juniper

Davide is a lawyer, a consultant and an entrepreneur. He recently left McKinsey & Cie to launch a boutique consulting firm focusing on innovation, strategy and culture. He's been an investor and an advisor to two tech startups, and is in the process of building a third one. Davide is a lawyer (McGill BCL/LLB 2000) and holds a masters from the London School of Economics and an MBA from Desautels.

Allen Mendelsohn, Internet Law Specialist

Allen Mendelsohn is a Montreal-based sole practitioner specializing in internet and technology law. He holds an MBA and three law degrees from McGill, which included writing an award-winning Master’s thesis on internet video and copyright. After working in commercial law at a large Montreal firm, he worked as Vice-President of an internet company, and now combines those experiences to advise a variety of clients including numerous startups on a wide range of internet and corporate law issues. He has lectured on internet law at McGill and the University of Ottawa, as well as in a host of other public and private forums. He regularly appears in a variety of media including the CBC and CTV discussing legal matters relating to the internet, and writes a popular blog about internet legal issues at
